Every official letter in the Netherlands is built from the same few sentences. These are the eight letters a newcomer gets in the first year, with the lines they always contain read into English, the one thing to do, and the rule for the deadline. When a letter on your mat matches a card, you know what it wants before you finish your coffee.
Three rules apply to all of them. The deadline runs from the dagtekening, the date printed on the letter, not the day you opened it. Bezwaar (objection) is a right with a fixed window, usually six weeks, four for the IND. And a letter you do not understand is a phone call, not a shelf: ik heb een brief gekregen en ik begrijp hem niet works at every office.
Announces a rent increase, usually from 1 July. Must arrive at least two months before the new rent starts and state the old rent, the new rent and the percentage.
Wij stellen voor de huurprijs per 1 juli te verhogen van € ... naar € ... (... %).
We propose to raise the rent from ... to ... (...%) as of 1 July.
Indien u het niet eens bent met de huurverhoging, kunt u vóór de ingangsdatum bezwaar maken.
If you disagree, you may object before the start date.
Do Check the percentage against the year's legal maximum for your type of rental; for regulated and mid-range rentals the Huurcommissie can rule on it.

Do Pay via the QR code or with the CJIB reference, ask for instalments from 75 euros, or appeal within six weeks (payment is suspended while it is reviewed).
Deadline Six weeks from the printed date to appeal; eight weeks to pay.
Arrives after hospital care, a specialist, blood tests or prescriptions: your share of the cost up to the yearly deductible. GP visits are never on it.

Deadline The payment term is on the invoice, usually 30 days.
Once a year, the supplier compares the monthly advances you paid (termijnbedragen) with what you actually used, and either refunds or bills the difference.

Beschikking toeslag / terugvordering (allowance decision or reclaim)
Grants, changes or reclaims an allowance (zorgtoeslag, huurtoeslag, kinderopvangtoeslag). A definitieve berekening after the year can end in a repayment.
Uw zorgtoeslag voor 2026 is vastgesteld op € ... per maand.
Your health allowance for 2026 is set at ... a month, based on the income you estimated.

Do Keep the income estimate current all year; a reclaim letter can be spread over 24 months on request.
Deadline Six weeks to object to a decision; repayment terms are on the letter.
